Gather & Gamble

Whether you're starting a podcast, preparing for a presentation at work, or maybe even participating in the A to Z Blog Challenge, it's important that you spend time gathering as much information as you can, so that you are prepared.

Before starting our podcast, Lisa and I spent hours on the phone making a list of possible show ideas.  We gathered as many topics as we could think of.  Anything from parenthood to health to relationships and everything in between, we wrote it down.  Nothing was off-limits.

However, after we got started we quickly realized that not only was it important to gather topic ideas, it was important to gather information about those topics.  Each of our episodes are filled with random thoughts and opinions about a variety of topics.  We have a million ideas for things we want to talk about but actually talking about those ideas was another story.  That's where the gamble comes in.

Sometimes in life, we have to take a gamble.  Whether we are prepared for it or not, we will never know if it was the right thing to do unless we do it.  This goes for so many areas in life and for so many different types of people.  You can gather information and think you're prepared for something but you are always taking a gamble no matter what.  There is always a risk.

Every day we take risks.  It could be as simple as taking a trip to the grocery store in a snowstorm because you desperately need to restock your fridge or deciding to stay in the comfort of your own home out of the snow.  Either way, something could go wrong.  You might get into a horrible car accident or a tree could fall on your house.   If we accept that everything we do has risks, we would be a lot better off.

Instead of looking at everything in a negative light, begin looking at it as; no matter what something can go wrong, whether I take this risk or not.  So if that's the case, just take the risk.   Be prepared, gather the info, but make the big moves anyway. Take a gamble and bet on yourself.  Because if you don't follow through, someone else will, and all you'll have left is regret.

  1. So true. Just dreaming about things won't make things happen. You have to step out of your head and do something. Gathering the information necessary to do the things you want to do is an important step. Don't jump into the pool unless you've checked to see if there is water in it.

  2. I often feel this way in starting a new craft or a certain knitting pattern I don't know... I'm apprehensive in starting, but soon I have it mastered and now comfortable. I can procrastinate sometimes a long time in begining something though... I just don't jump in quickly.
